Joy Education is seeking aspiring educators to join our Teaching Fellowship Institute, a selective, two-week virtual training experience designed to prepare fellows to deliver high-impact literacy instruction.

The institute serves as the entry point into a multi-stage educator pathway at Joy Education:

Teaching Fellowship Institute → Year-Long Teaching Fellowship → Teaching Faculty

This pathway is designed to develop skilled, mission-aligned educators who are prepared to deliver transformative literacy support in community-based settings.

Fellowship Pathway

Stage 1: Teaching Fellowship Institute (2 Weeks)

Foundational training in Joy Education’s instructional model, tools, and approach to literacy intervention.

Stage 2: Year-Long Teaching Fellowship (10 Months)

Selected fellows continue developing their practice through:

  • Paid tutoring experience
  • Ongoing coaching and professional learning
  • Structured opportunities to build instructional expertise

Stage 3: Teaching Faculty

High-performing fellows may transition into part-time Teaching Faculty roles, supporting program delivery and mentoring newer educators.

Joy Education partners with schools, families, and community organizations to deliver personalized, evidence-based reading intervention grounded in the Science of Reading.

Key Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

During the institute, you will:

  • Learn and apply structured literacy practices aligned with the Science of Reading
  • Practice delivering tutoring lessons through guided simulations
  • Participate in live coaching and feedback cycles
  • Build skills in student engagement and relationship-building
  • Learn to use data and assessments to inform instruction
  • Engage with Joy Education’s digital tools and virtual tutoring platform

Completion Expectations

To successfully complete the institute, fellows must:

  • Attend at least 90% of all sessions
  • Participate fully in all live virtual sessions
  • Complete all training activities and practice requirements
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and readiness for instructional work
Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Are currently enrolled in or have completed a 2-year or 4-year college program
  • Are pursuing or have studied education, psychology, social work, or related fields
  • Graduate students (especially in education or related disciplines) are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Are interested in pursuing a career in teaching or youth development
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and a willingness to learn
  • Are reliable, coachable, and committed to student success
  • Are comfortable in a fully virtual learning and teaching environment
  • Are passionate about advancing literacy in underserved communities

Application Process

Step 1: Application Submission

Step 2: Video Submission Task

Read-Aloud Video Submission (5 Minutes)

As part of your application, please submit a 5-minute pre-recorded interactive read-aloud for an elementary-aged student (K–3).

What to include:

  • Choose a short, age-appropriate text
  • Read with expression, clarity, and energy
  • Incorporate 2–3 questions or prompts to engage the student (e.g., predictions, connections, reflections)
  • Briefly support understanding (e.g., explain a word or highlight meaning)

What we’re looking for:

  • Student engagement (not just reading aloud)
  • Clear, expressive delivery
  • Warmth, presence, and enthusiasm
  • A student-centered approach

Tip: Act as if a student is present—this should feel interactive, not just a performance.

Through Virtual Reading Clinics, Mobile Reading Clinics, and a Digital Foundational Reading Skills Curriculum, we use innovation and community partnerships to strengthen literacy outcomes. Our next stage of product innovation includes AI-enabled literacy tools and gamified learning experiences that make practice more interactive, personalized, and joyful for students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design on-brand assets for campaigns, programs, and events (social graphics, one-pagers, flyers, slide decks, email and web visuals).
  • Maintain and evolve Joy Education’s visual identity system (typography, color, iconography, templates, and brand guidelines).
  • Build templates and toolkits (Canva/Figma/Google Slides) that enable staff to self-serve while maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Produce compelling report and publication layouts (impact briefs, case studies, data summaries), including accessible PDFs.
  • Create graphics and simple animations for web, video, and social; export/rasterize assets optimized for various platforms.
  • Collaborate on data visualization for research, program evaluation, and grant reporting; turn findings into audience-friendly visuals.
  • Support website visuals (hero images, illustrations, infographics, thumbnails) and ensure designs meet accessibility and responsiveness standards.
  • Coordinate with program, development, and community teams to keep materials current and aligned with messaging.
  • Manage asset libraries and file hygiene; name, version, and organize source files for team reuse.
  • Bonus/optional: contribute light photo/video editing and motion graphics for storytelling and highlights.

Qualifications
